The Antigonish Affordable Housing Society (AAHS) is now accepting applications from potential tenants living on low incomes for 10 new affordable housing units now under construction at Riverside Estates.
The multi-family building includes six two-bedroom and four one-bedroom units. Two of the one-bedroom ground floor apartments will be barrier-free.
The deadline for application is May 16th. Application forms can be picked up and dropped off at the Town Hall, Municipal Office, the Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre, and the circulation desk at the People’s Place Library. Forms can also be downloaded from the AAHS website www.antigonishaffordablehousing.ca
The AAHS Tenant Selection Committee will process applications as they are received. Priority will be given to those who are most in need of housing based on a scoring system used by the Committee to review the applications.
According to AAHS Community Navigator, Carleton MacNeil, who sits on the Committee, “We know the struggles people living on low incomes face, so compassion considerations are built into the application process. The applicants with the highest scores, and therefore the greatest need, will be interviewed. We usually interview three people for every unit before we make our final selection.”
MacNeil reviews all applications he receives and offers applicants an opportunity to clarify, add or delete information before their applications are scored by the Committee. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact MacNeil at 902 318-3732 with any questions about the application process.
The multi-family building is expected to be ready for occupancy in September 2018 and will include a Community Room for residents to meet and to invite others to their new home.
