Safe, affordable housing is the foundation of healthy, thriving communities—improving health outcomes, stabilizing the workforce, and strengthening long-term well-being. Antigonish is at a critical tipping point as housing costs rise and affordable options disappear, creating an urgent need for leadership and action. The Sugarloaf project responds directly to this growing gap, delivering long-term affordable housing where it does not currently exist. This $60 million, shovel-ready initiative already has government support in place, and a $2 million community investment will unlock the remaining funding—leveraging up to 20× its value. Building on a proven track record of delivering 45 affordable homes, AAHS is ready to scale its impact. Sugarloaf will create 134 inclusive homes for individuals, families, and seniors, with shared spaces designed to foster connection, dignity, and belonging.

The Why...
HOUSING BUILDS HEALTHY, THRIVING COMMUNITIES
Safe, affordable housing is essential to strong, thriving communities. When housing is available, it unlocks better health outcomes, workforce stability, educational success, and sustainable community development.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS AT A CRITICAL TIPPING POINT
Rising housing costs and limited availability are putting increasing strain on families and communities. As development trends toward higher-cost housing, deliberate investment in affordable housing is urgently needed to restore balance and strengthen our communities.
SUGARLOAF FILLS ANTIGONISH’S AFFORDABLE HOUSING GAP
Sugarloaf fills a critical housing gap in Antigonish by delivering community-focused, long-term affordable homes—at a scale that does not currently exist.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT UNLOCKS GOVERNMENT SUPPORT
Sugarloaf is shovel-ready and strongly aligned with government priorities. Local investment will leverage up to 20-to-1 in government support, turning community commitment into transformational impact.
AAHS – PROVEN IMPACT, READY TO DO MORE
AAHS has a proven track record of delivering the right housing solutions. Over the past decade, we’ve created 45 homes while upholding financial, environmental, and social sustainability—but the need is greater. Together, we can do even more.
SUGARLOAF — HOMES FOR EVERYONE, DESIGNED FOR INCLUSION
Sugarloaf will be a diverse, inclusive community with 134 thoughtfully designed homes, from one- to four-bedroom units, including barrier-free options. Shared gardens, playgrounds, and community spaces will support connection and create a welcoming place for singles, couples, seniors, and families of all sizes to call home.
“Closer to work; closer to Superstore; easier to get places. Living in Appleseed Court lowered financial stress. I'm so much happier here. … not worried about paying bills and groceries.”
